19th C. Easby Abbey English Antique Gold Framed Green Mat Black White Engraving

30P

$420.00 /Item

A masterfully executed Georgian engraving by George Cuit (British, 1779–circa 1840), titled Easby Abbey Near Richmond, Yorks, dated 1834. This work, in its original frame, captures the romantic ruin of Easby Abbey in North Yorkshire with remarkable detail and sensitivity, characteristic of Cuit’s architectural studies and deep appreciation for the English landscape.
The engraving presents the Gothic remains of the abbey, its soaring arched windows and crumbling stone walls partially reclaimed by nature. A small group of figures near the foreground adds a human element, enhancing the historical ambiance and sense of scale.
Cuit, the son of painter George Cuit the Elder, was known for his topographical road maps and etchings of historic British architecture. This particular work is a fine example of early 19th-century printmaking, balancing technical precision with a Romantic sensibility.
Elegantly framed in a giltwood frame with double matting in forest green and cream tones, the piece is professionally presented and ready to display.
