"Everything inspires me. Sometimes it’s something I see, other times it’s the mathematic formula I rely on to produce the functional item I have in mind.” - Anacleto Spazzapan
We are totally mesmerized and inspired by Spazzapan's work.
He is an Italian artist and designer who was born in Udine, Italy, in 1943. He studied Art and Architecture at the University of Venice where he developed an interest in metalworking and welding. He spent his early career as a painter and sculptor, with some of his pieces being showcased in galleries across Italy.
He is most famous for his unique creations utilizing colorful metal rods, wires, and upholstery. With these materials, Spazzapan has reinvented the notion of what elegant and bold furniture can look and feel like. His works have since been featured in countless exhibitions and publications. They have also been collected by institutions like MoMA, The V&A, and The Triennale di Milano. He is considered to be one of the most original and innovative artists of his generation.
His works merge the boldness and brightness of colors found in Italian Art Deco Design with classical elements found throughout the Baroque period, creating a sense of enduring beauty which outlasts period trends.
Many of his creations take reference from the natural world and are deliberately realized to look as delicate and as light as their inspiration. Utilizing a process of twisted metal rods, coated with an epoxy powder, to create a smooth and glossy finish, Spazzapan’s works are durable, appropriate also for outdoors and lasting, a modern celebration of circularity. His chairs specifically are designed to support the body and provide a relaxing environment.
Spazzapan’s works are more than just pieces of functional furniture, for each is a beautiful and bespoke work of art, reflecting Spazzapan’s vision, personality, and love for history.
